This Free pattern is full of easy to follow instructions and pictures to help you create your very own Organza ribbon purse!
Easy adjustments and other reccomendations:
This pattern is worked in rounds with about 20 stitches. The finished size following the pattern will make a small handbag around 10″ wide. You can adjust the size by adding or dropping stitches in the starting chain.
This bag is more decorative rather than functional. If you’d like this purse to be more functional, I highly recommend hand sewing in a lining to add support for any items you’d wish to carry. I would also recommend adding a magnetic closure to the upper inside of the bag.

Supplies
50 yards of organza ribbon 1.5” wide, no wire.
(If you choose to make this in a tighter tension than the pattern suggests, you will need more ribbon)
(Optional: magnetic snap closure)

About this pattern
Difficultly: experienced beginner
The stitches are very basic, but working with the ribbon can be a little bit of a learning curve.
This pattern requires a very loose tension. Because it’s so loose, it can be hard to differentiate the stitches you’ve
created. You may need to try this out a couple of times before making a successful purse.
This pattern is made by hand and no hook. You will be using your fingers as the hook.
The purse is worked in rounds from the base of the purse up.
There are two strap options available, both are written at the end of the purse body pattern.
***keep the ribbon flat while working, do not bend or twist the ribbon or your purse won’t come out looking like the
product photos.
Time: about 1 hour
Finished purse size: about 10”x7”with a 9” drop strap. Size will vary based on your tension and if you choose a
thinner or thicker ribbon.

Let’s Begin!
Purse body PATTERN:
CH 11.
The measurement of your chain should be about 10-11 inches when gently stretched.

ROUND 1:
SLS in 2nd CH from hand. SLS in each CH until you reach the end. (10 ST’S).

T o form the round, rotate your work and insert 10 more SLS in the remaining ‘bottom’ loops of the original chain. Your
last stitch should be parallel to your starting SLS. (T otal of 20 stitches in this round.)
See image below, blue arrow indicates where to work the remaining SLS’s.

End of round 1 should look like the photo below.

ROUND 2:
SLS in next stitch to start the new round (1st stitch of last round), SLS in each ST in round until you reach the
beginning of the round. (20 STS total)

Repeat round 2 for ROUNDS 3-10. Or until you reach the desired height of the bag.

Tip: The purse may try to roll into itself as you continue in rounds 3-10. Try to unroll the bag as you work so that you
don’t crochet in the wrong stitches.
See image below:

Reminder: Keep your stitches as loose as the gauge suggests. This will ensure that you don’t use more ribbon than
suggested.
When you’re finished with round 10, it’s now time to make the strap.
Decide whether you’d like strap option #1 or #2 and continue following the pattern accordingly.
Strap PATTERN OPTION #1 (pink purse in photos)
With your work starting at the end of round 10 at the last stitch you created (ST #20 of the round), CH 11.

Find ST #11 of round 10. With your chain straightened, bend it like a rainbow and slip stitch into the stitch you just
located. Next, SLS into the ST directly to the left (ST #10 of round 10.)

T o create a good thickness to the strap you will be working back toward the other side of the purse:
Make 1 SLS through each chain stitch on the strap, 11 STS total. .
Finally, attach your work at the 1st ST of round 10. It should be the stitch directly to the left of where the chain was
started.

Once strap is securely attached, fasten off.
Weave in ends.
*If choosing to add in magnetic closure, you can hand sew it in the top center inside of the bag at this time.
Long bows:
For the bows, I cut 2 pieces of ribbon measuring 50 inches.
On each side of the strap, weave one ribbon around the base of the strap and tie in a bow.
Finish the bow ends by cutting them at an angle and finish with a lighter.

Strap option #2 (black purse in photos):
Fasten off from round 10 and weave in all tail ends. Put the purse ‘body’ to the side for now.
Leaving a long tail of 25”, make a slip knot. Chain 5.

Finding the side of your purse where you’ll attach the first strap *stitch #20 of round 10 (or you can just eyeball it),
slip your working chain into the stitch mentioned. SLS into the stitch space directly to the left (stitch #1 of round 10.)
See photo on next page for reference.

SLS into remaining chains on your strap. 5 in total. Fasten off leaving another 25” for the tail.

Tie the two tail ends in a knot for a cleaner finish.
Repeat from beginning on the other side. *(STS #11 & #10 of rnd 10, or whichever stitches are directly across from
the first strap.)

Tie the two sets of tails in a big bow, and you’re done!
